Salmonella Dub - Heal Me

www.fasterlouder.com.au

After 15 years together, Salmonella Dub’s sixth studio-released album, Heal Me, shows evidence of a band well versed in combining their various instruments into a layered and textured whole. Drawing insipration from genres ranging from reggae, dub, groove, and electronica, the end result is a synthesis into a fluid vibe.

The 11-track album relased on September 3, was produced by Los Angeles-based David Harrow. His techno-based background seems to have helped the band sharpen their music into polished atmospheric grooves.

Salmonella Dub embraces vocals as an asset to their sound, instead of an afterthought. While the lyrics are catchy at times, it is the pervasive atmosphere, vibe, and fusion of their music that stands out. Genre-mixing clearly works well for them, but they shine on tracks like Love Sunshine and Happiness and the title track Heal Me which showcases their style through upbeat grooves, flavourful horns, and memorable basslines.

Heal Me ’s liquid grooves are layered with instruments, genres, and lyrics. The vibe transferred through the album unconsciously evoked me to dance around in my seat and I can imagine that Salmonella Dub is a band who is not fully appreciated until seen live and until one finds their body fully immersed in the experience of their music.
