Silversun Pickups - LazyEye (single)
Mon 8th Oct, 2007 in Music Reviews
Warm fuzz washes over you listening to the Silversun Pickups’ Lazy Eye. It reminds me of … I don’t know… something seething anyway. Starting off smooth and fuzzy, Lazy Eye builds to a crescendo of dark twisting angst. I’ve never heard Silversun Pickups before but it was a nice surprise to hear that big rolling sound jumping out at me.
Whilst it didn’t hit me over the head with a mallet the track did kind of drown me in a heavy salt sea – I could feel myself going under but I wasn’t struggling. To me the single has a soft sauntering savagery about it – a temperate, strutting confidence perhaps. There are hints of this and that in there – shades of Frank Black definitely . As a track Lazy Eye doesn’t let that pedigree down one iota but it also has a quiet, smiling originality about it that made me like it.
Dark frangipanis crushed underfoot!
