Behemoth - The Apostasy(Regain)
Mon 6th Aug, 2007 in Music Reviews
Behemoth provides us this year with The Apostasy their eighth album, an audio feast of technical death metal, which is over far too soon. This album brings you some incredible guitar work plastered over a backdrop of furious riffing. The guitarists of Behemoth work really well together, and on this recording the leads are well-woven into the mix, they don’t just exist in and of themselves, hanging out in space like some bands’ leads do. On The Apostasy they complement each other, contributing well to the incredible balance of this album. And the leads at the start of Christgrinding are magnificent.
This recording proves that Behemoth is at the top of the game: they will incinerate you with their intensity and their musicianship, and with their unique, ear-battering style. Listening to the track Kriegsphilosophie is a bludgeoningly brutal experience, blastbeats overlaid with beautifully worked, technical death metal. Other tracks, such as Libertheme are hard, chunky, and raw, while the vocals on Inner Sanctum remind me of early – œ90s thrash/death.
I’ve had this album on constant rotation, and I hope you all go and get it to do the same. It’s so fucking good you’ll go and burn some Christians to celebrate.
