Tegan and Sara - Back InYour Head (single)
Mon 6th Aug, 2007 in Music Reviews
The duo from Canada are young for their musical year, releasing their fourth record by the knee-high-to-a-grasshopper age of 26. Now a little older, their ideas are as fresh as their young faces, with their fifth release, The Con.
The single, Back In Your Head, uses a quick tempo snare smack and a rudimentary piano counter-melody to latch onto you. Electro droplets dance around the tune here, creating an exciting atmosphere. However the best thing about this single is the chorus: using the same musical ideas of the verses, Tegan and Sara null show the strength of minimalist melodic writing. They unleash an electro-pop punch, with a punk attitude that the Veronicas would kill for, vocally reminiscent of No Doubt’s Tragic Kingdom.
It’s a pop song though, clocking in a three minutes exactly, it gets better with age.
