I arrived at the Zoo to see a stagnant line at the door, full of eager punters trying to get in even though the show was a sell out. Such was the anticipation of this great Australian line up.
It had been a while since I had been to see a rock band, and I was really looking forward to having ringing ears by the end of the night….and they certainly were! The Zoo has a sweet sound system, and all the bands came through clear and loud.
Not knowing much about the support bands I went in with an open mind about what I was going to experience, and I was not disappointed! I entered to see a vibrant Brisbane crowd buzzing with excitement, with only some conserving their energy for the main act, and most giving 67 Special and The Cops the respect they deserved. Inside the Zoo there was a great vibe, and from there it only got better.
The Cops have a sound that had me rocking from the very first song. I am always impressed by a rock band that can deliver a well defined guitar sound that still sounds dirty. All three bands playing this night were able to achieve this. The songs of The Cops are true to the rock genre with vocal styles and song structures that are a little out of the ordinary. It was easy to see that The Cops drew energy from the crowd and put in a great set that reflected the spirit and energy of the energetic Brisbane crowd. The Cops finished their set with the words: “I am not just saying this Brisbane, you are a great crowd…” and you just know that any rock crowd were the beverages are flowing freely love to hear that, we all let them know about that comment with a great roar!
No sooner had the Cops left the stage that real estate at the front of the stage became valuable, punters were very keen to get close for the main act. I was impressed with what I had heard of Dallas Crane on the radio, and the band put on a very polished performance that I could not fault.
With all three guitarists in the band singing at one point or another Dallas Crane cranked out a few songs I recognised including No Through Road, Can’t Work You Out, Come Again and Ladybird, finishing off their set with big smiles and great rock moves. There must have been something in the air with the lead singer of Dallas Crane stating that in the 48 gigs they had played so far this tour that the Brisbane crowd was “The Best”! This of course was greeted with another roar from the crowd, truly a great vibe.
This was definitely one of the best rock gigs that I have been too in a very long time. The combination of the energy of the crowd and the stellar performance of the bands made for a very satisfying rock experience. Well done boys, what a top night!
