Mindsnare @ Jamison Inn(08/06/2007)
Sun 17th Jun, 2007 in Gig Reviews
Mindsnare are currently touring Australia, and are another great band that’s risen out of Trial and Error records. They made a small but welcomed stop off to play a gig at the Jamison Inn. Hardcore bands are proving to be very popular here, with each band bringing reasonable crowds.
The first band to hit the stage were locals Slow Burn. Slow burn have shown a lot of improvement since the first time I saw them play. Their sound has come along way, in particularly the vocals have improved a lot. These boys seem a lot more confident on stage, and this is also coming through in their sound.
As more people began to pile into the small venue, locals 4 Dead began there set. A large circle pit was formed and the room began to move. Everyone was enjoying 4 Dead’s great guitar riffs, and somewhat more melodic screams. With punters even trying to share the stage with the band. 4 Dead had no problem with this, but the sound crew brought an end to this in fear of there gear being damaged, which is fair enough because it ain’t cheap. The vocals were somewhat different to the hardcore I’ve been listening to lately but after a few songs they had won me over.
Next up were a band traveling all the way from Adelaide, Jungle Fever. They played a fast energetic set, as the crowd continued to grow. The circle pit was up and running again, and everyone looked to be having a great time. Their sound was great mixing old school hardcore and melodic riffs which they done considerably well. They are a very solid live act and are constantly getting better and are continually releasing some great CDs. Jungle Fever had a great stage presence with many punters singing along and strutting Jungle Fever hoodies and T-shirts.
Finally the main act of the night hit the stage. As Mindsnare began setting up, the bar was emptied and everyone began to piled inside. Their fast and abrasive hardcore brought forward an even larger circle pit with surprisingly few injuries arising out of it. At one stage the room was split in half with the punters all running toward the middle at each other. It was no surprise that by the end of there set their vocalist barely had a voice left, they truly gave it there all. Punters were singing along, with smaller fans deciding to stand on chairs at the back of the pit to avoid injury.
Mindsnare, Jungle Fever, 4 Dead and Slow Burn all played great sets and made it a great night. Australian hardcore has come a long way of the past decade and its great to see so many talented bands arising out of it and sharing the stage. With the success of all the past hardcore shows, I think its safe to say that nights like these will become a much welcomed regular occurrence at the Jamison Inn.
