It is rare for a band to come to another state or country and be prepared to play an all ages show for the kids, on top of an 18+ show, but that is just what
Bodyjar did.
Local band Saving Savanah kicked off the evening with a set of songs made up predominantly from their debut self titled EP. Their first song
Reaching Out (Compassion Will Kill You) was a great opener but unfortunately the remainder of the set was less impressive.
Ryan Paterson’s vocals were strong and the use of piano very effective
but there was something lacking. They have a lot of potential to be an
impressive live band, but having only been around for 12 months, have plenty of
opportunity to develop.
Melbourne act Trial Kennedy are no strangers to
Adelaide gig-goers, regulars at all ages shows. They played an impressive set
containing songs from their three EPs including The Great Escape, Tuesday
Shoes and Knife Light. Their energy was contagious and their set was
played with great liveliness.
It had been a long time waiting for Adelaide Bodyjar fans but they were not disappointed. The boys played their twelve song set with energy and enthusiasm which was reflected in the expanding mosh pit. Songs such as
Not The Same, 17 Years, Call To Arms and Too Drunk To Drive were crowd favourites and really got people moving, resulting in a full-on mosh to rival any hardcore band.
Cam Baines’s vocals were strong throughout. Antics from bassist Grant Relf
and guitarist/vocalist Tom Read kept things interesting between songs, involving the audience whenever possible.
After encouraging the crowd to ask for an encore, Bodyjar finished up with 2002 hit,
One In A Million.
The Is It Alive tour (finishing up in Adelaide at the 18+ show the
following night) was to promote the band’s new live album of the same name. The album features favourites from the band and fans alike recorded at various performances over the past few years.
From the moment they stepped on stage, there was never any doubt that Bodyjar was going to put on an amazing show; which is exactly what they delivered.
