So the band names sound familiar, but you don’t know any of the song names right? My prediction is that this will change as soon as folk get wind of these two talented acts The Temper Trap and Snowman and learn how substantial both of their live performances are.

Hailing from Old Melbourne town, and oh so very ‘now’ sounding The Temper Trap are in the perfect position to make their mark on 2007 with a freshly recorded self titled EP following them around on tour. It was unfortunate that there weren’t more bodies in the crowd to witness this confident four piece, as they belted out around nine songs that have a massive vocal backbone, thanks to lead singer Dougy. Their performance strengthening as they played My Sun, which is currently getting some well deserved airplay. It was almost a shame that their set had to end as the energy levels of the crowd were just beginning to lift in the percussive second to last song, and they finished their set with a song I was disappointed not to find on their EP, called Hearts.

Moody and entertaining West Aussies Snowman had me at the first prairie whistle, but when Andy, their front man pulled out his electric violin, I was gone. These guys were a hoot, full of energy and with a sound that was much more mature and well handled than you might expect from this early twenties quad. It wasn’t just their atmospheric sound that filled the room either, Snowman managed to pull a decent following, and I imagine this is only going to juggernaut into larger events and venues. They even managed to inspire a fair bit of movement from the audience, no mean feat for any band when the kids are out on a school night. If I had to describe their sound, I’d say think Tarantino flick soundtrack, slightly comical and a touch seedy but definitely worth catching, they’ll make your hips swing and the corner of your mouths turn up I’m sure.
