Kylie @ Entertainment Centre,Sydney (11/11/06)
Tue 14th Nov, 2006 in Gig Reviews
We all knew that it would be an emotional evening, but when Kylie made her majestic entrance onto the stage, complete with frou frou feathers and corset, the response to La Minogue was simply overwhelming. A close up camera shot of the moment showed her biting down on her top lip, drawing a big deep breath to fight back the tears and then she belted out Better The Devil You Know like she had never before.
With the dance routines stripped back, the concert was a lot less energetic then previous tours, but her entourage of back up dancers more then made up for it. Interestingly, Kylie played with levels and props to make up for her lack of movement around the stage – the concert did not falter for it though and it was a great way to remind us of how determined and driven Kylie has been in order to get back on the stage that she clearly loved so much. The show was divided into a series of acts, which allowed for less costume changes, but stylistically, some of them were a little less successful then others. She donned boxing gloves and pretended to be in a gym, she pulled on a platinum wig and hauled us back to the 80s, she became an iron clad alien and even hovered above the stage in a beautiful red dress atop of a moon.
With so many excellent songs, the concert rollicked along and each song was nearly always met with a standing ovation. Highlights included Confide In Me which was pitch perfect, Slow was raunchy, The Locomotion received a spit polish and all the new hits were present too, from Come Into My World and Can’t Get You Out Of My Head but the showstopper of the night had to be Especially For You... ahh, the memories!
It was so good to see Kylie back, happy and healthy and her attempts at conveying the emotion she felt were received wholeheartedly from the eager audience. Not one person left that building without having laughed heartily, boogied down for a moment or two and shed a little tear. Its good to have you back Miss Minogue…
