Whoever thought it was a good idea to give Shannon Noll the support slot for one of the world’s greatest bands deserves a swift kick in the nuts. Ok, they’re on the same label but that’s no reason to punish the crowd who have already paid good one to see one good band by inflicting this merciless pain on them so why should the overall package be devalued by this hack. There are plenty of other decent live acts more deserving of the opportunity rather than this fly-by-nighter and judging by other punters who were at the bar or further away in the car park made the right choice than letting their ears be subjected to this.

Nevertheless, it wasn’t this amateur that punters had come to see. In the minutes leading up to 9 o’clock you feel the anticipation and excitement in the air for what was about to unfold. What would punters be in for? Simply, it would have been the night of their life. With seven great albums to choose a set from I don’t think anyone could walk away disappointed. Sitting or should I say standing in the fourth row gave a me a bird’s eye view of all the action and when the boys strode to the stage with their trademark swagger and a touch of cockiness it was game on. Ed Kawalczyk is your typical front man and with a casual smile and sporting dark sunglasses he launched into Mystery. The crowd were swept off their feet with chart charmer The River followed by the classics I Alone, Iris and All Over You. To my surprise they dusted off Shit Towne and gave it a right ole airing. Song after song the hits kept coming with Rattlesnake, White Discussion and Lightning Crashes to be up there as crowd favourites. There wasn’t a lot of banter with the crowd preferring to let the music do all the talking and with some many great songs to play it was time to get cracking as two hours literally whizzed past.

Songs From Black Mountain is littered with so many great songs, which are destined to become classics in time with Wings and Sofia maintaining the energy of the show. The Johnny Cash cover I Walk The Line was like icing on the cake before kicking in to Lakini’s Juice, Heaven and the much anticipated Simple Creed. The band were in full flight finishing in a flurry with Stood Up For Love, Dolphin’s Cry, Run To The Water before unleashing the “Adelaide Tabernacle Choir” and a chance for one last sing-a-long in Dance With You to close out the night. Bloody tops!

Nobody has hearted this, be the first!

Awesome review. It was an amazing night. I went to Melbourne for their shows at the Palais Theatre. They cracked out some gems there too - They pulled out Pain Lies On The Riverside at the second show - my god it was good! But I was hoping for some
