Angelas Dish @ Ruby's Lounge,Melbourne (14/10/06)

For starters, Angelas Dish had the fastest and smoothest sound check I think I’ve ever seen. Then there was their first song Save Me which was a rock-a-licious ditty that hit a subdued part before bouncing back with thumping alert drum beats and crashing guitars, practically making the audience wake up and pay attention (as if they weren’t already!).
Angelas Dish are musically clean and no I don’t mean from profanity. Sound wise they were crisp and of a high quality. Their sound was also highly entertaining and it’s music you would play again and again on your stereo. Of course, if they’re worried about not having enough to offer musically (and they do), there’s always the fact that the boys are not exactly hard on the eyes. Shallow I know but hey, it’s an observation. I’m just there to give you a full report card on this great band. Yes, these are the makings of a great mainstream band in every sense. They have the sound and the look. Their song, Moving On, was enthralling to hear. It was a song of lessons learned in the areas of pain and hurt – something everyone and anyone can relate to. It also made a nice change to have a lead singer with a vocal range rather than, say, um…not. It makes a refreshing change after listening to the warm acts of emo rock and thrash rock/metal screaming down the microphone at the audience with an emo song about not making it in the music industry – hmmm, wonder why? Let’s compare shall we? No, that’s just cruel.
It was highly apparent during their set that Angelas Dish are on the way to much bigger and better things and should be kept a track of. Crunching drums and crashing guitars for their final song on stage left a positive mark of me wanting more. And if that wasn’t enough, then of course there was some butt-wiggling from the lead singer that was appreciated by this girl. I know, I’m shallow. No, really, I’m about the music, really. Angelas Dish are a band that I’d go see again – they bounced around the stage and were quite polished which made them far more engaging to watch and listen to.
