Cannibal Corpse, Psycroptic @Fowlers Live, Adelaide,(9/10/06)
Sun 29th Oct, 2006 in Gig Reviews
If brutal was what you wanted on Monday the October 9, brutal was what was delivered, with a line up of Psycroptic (TAS) and Cannibal Corpse (USA) at Fowlers live. Cannibal Corpse touring with their latest album Kill with the Sounds of the Underground Tour. The band is made up of George “Corpsegrinder” Fisher on vocals, Alex Webster on bass, Paul Mazurkiewicz on drums, with Pat O’Brien and Rob Barrett on guitar. This being only the second time in fifteen years that Cannibal Corpse has come to Australian shores.
The first band warmed up the crowd with its extreme lead singer. Psycroptic kicked it into another gear with its intense double kick triples. Psycroptic, in my opinion are the best band in Australia to be teamed up with Cannibal Corpse.
As the crowds tense expectations rose to its peak then it was time for the act that everyone had been waiting so long to see, as Cannibal Corpse had not come to Australian shore for a very long time long time.
Previously being censored by the Australian government, it was time for Cannibal Corpse to unleash on the Adelaide audience what some die hard fans had been waiting years to see. No holding back Cannibal Corpse pounded out a set of classics mixed up with songs from the new album to an enthusiastic audience.
It was hard to pick the stand out songs of the night. As all of Cannibal Corpse songs were great. However my favourites were Fucked with a Knife and Hammer Smash Face. Both were particularly fantastic. Although there was not enough time for Cannibal Corpse to possibly play all their classic crowd favourites, the live show was as intense and metal as any fan could dream.
Packing out Fowlers, the crowd generally seemed stoked to have witnessed Cannibal Corpse. If there were any complaints they were that the gig should have been held at a larger venue as some people could not see the stage. And if Cannibal Corpse had a complaint it was that Corpsegrinder got hit in the face with someones shoe from the crowd.
All up the gig was a heavy metal success with band members hanging around after wards to meet the crowd and down a few cold ones!! A very successful gig.
