What can you say about this group? One thing that you can definitely say is that Rogue Traders know their way around pop-rock! Playing to a packed Hordern Pavilion, Natalie Bassingthwaighte definitely proved a crowd pleaser.
The show began with the track Believer. Appearing on stage wearing a leather corset as part of a sexy cop uniform (complete with reflective Chips glasses) was the girl of the moment, lead singer and ex-Neighbours star Bassingthwaighte. The crowd obviously loved the entrance and showed their appreciation.
The group performed all the hit singles from debut album Here Come the Drums, including Way to Go!, Watching You and We’re Coming Home. Of course, they saved smash hit and crowd favourite Voodoo Child for last and raised the roof.
While the Rogue Traders have been around for a while, the introduction of Bassingthwaighte to the group has brought the band more of a mainstream focus. After completing a promotional tour of the UK, where Voodoo Child entered at number three on the charts, the group told the crowd how pleased they were to be home. Hence the name of the tour — We’re Coming Home. While the leading lady left the stage for costume changes on three occasions, James Ash kept the crowd thoroughly entertained with a great DJ set including a remix of the INXS hit One of My Kind.
Upon Bassingthaighte’s return, an amazing rendition of the Transvision Vamp hit I Want Your Love proved one thing: this woman can sing! No problems hitting those notes and keeping the energy levels pumping all night. These guys know how to entertain.
Prior to the grand finale, it was announced that the clip for the group’s final single from the album, In Love Again was to be filmed there and then on stage. Everybody roared and got into the song which will no doubt be another success on the charts. With that surprise and then topping the night off with Voodoo Child made a great night for all.
