The Midnight Juggernauts shook Adelaide last night as a relatively packed Jive crowd feasted upon their crisp, electro rock grooves in the warm, ambient party setting.
Whilst a potentially mismatched starting band for their interstate headliners, Adelaide rockers, The City Riots started the night with a comparatively more conventional indie set. The act recovered from their slight early technical issues with a solid and relatively tight set. Whilst initially a little short on substantial dynamic elements, the band seemed to hit their straps with their pop rock tracks from their upcoming EP. However, the night kicked into gear when Damn Arms hit the stage, impressing with their electric and eccentric sound filling out the room. Whilst the mixing, was at times slightly out of kilter and the live sound check a little undesirable, it’s clear their cacophony of alternative mess rock will continue to win over new fans. With long ambient tracks strong on hypnotic synth riffs and a frentic but fashionably erratic vocal attack, Damn Arms have plenty to offer punters and were a major talking point for fans after the gig.
Midnight Juggernauts carried the gig to greater heights with their synth heavy groove rock easily taking over the night. With hypnotic, loud clear dance rock beats, strong synth energy and a substantially cool vocal presence, the band demand credibility in the burgeoning underground Australian dance rock scene. Assisted by a faultless sound mix, the Juggernauts’ style allowed for head bangers and hip shakers to party as a collective whole. Electric and affecting this act is a must see for those looking for a new Australian band with substantial pulse.
