For me, the band Hawthorne Heights, is just one more emo band in an era where emo bands seem to be the trend.
The band came out playing hard and fast with a great mix of songs. The kids went wild for them, and the mosh pit was once again open to the rabid fans and the night was off to a hectic start.
Hawthorne Heights is from the same mould as other emo bands such as Taking Back Sunday with their style of pop rock. Although Hawthorne Heights adds its own ecclectic twist by playing songs about romances and broken hearts, mixing in death metal riffs and vocals.
Hawthorne Heights does have the stage presence needed to make an awesome concert, although the lack of good music was kind of relevant to make a successful concert.
One of the best things about this concert was the atmosphere. Even though, I admit, intense moshing is not my thing, it was fabulous to see all these kids getting into it and having a great time. They were really passionate about the music and supporting the band they love, Hawthorne Heights.
The three guitarists (Micah Carli, Casey Calvert and JT Woodruff) all seemed to be playing rhythm guitar. The concert was full of breakdowns and meaningless screaming, yet they seemed to have the crowd support.
The live show was, I felt, better than their recorded album, but this does not say much about the band. At least the lead singer’s (JT Woodruff) vocals seemed clearer, without all that yelping from the background singing.
The stand out track for me was “Ohio Is For Lovers.”
