Saturday night at The Metro saw Lord playing their hearts out as support act. They need very little support as they put in a stellar performance, continuing from out of the ashes where Dungeon left off. The crowd were treated to gems such as “Insanity Fall”, ‘The Richest Man” and “I am Death”.
Most impressive was the play off between Lord Tim and Mav on guitars. Mav aka Slash-lookalike stole the show with his Malmsteen-ish “Footsteps in the Sand” and paved the way for a fully fledged Metal night.
It’s been 20 years since drinks and the drinks flowed freely in celebration of Queensryche reaching our shores. The “Rock, Revenge, Redemption tour” coincides with the release of the Operation Mindcrime II album, the long awaited finale to 1988’s highly acclaimed Operation Mindcrime.
As the lights lay low, Queensryche slid on stage with Geoff Tate following, cheered on by a legion of fans. The themes of the concept album played central – it was a night where Theatre met Rock. Tate’s showmanship was superb as his passion and presence pulled one into the spectacular and complexity of Dr X, Nikki and Sister Mary’s bizarre story.
The schizophrenic “I’m American” had us pumped, “Empire” excited and “Silent Lucidity” bought a tear to the eye.
Amazing, enthralling, life changing… My only complaint would be another 20 year wait.
