The Entertainment Centre was surprisingly abuzz with excitement for a Wednesday night as audiences steadily filled seats for the first act, Wolfmother. Andrew Stickdale and co. were in fine form and well suited to lead the onslaught of classic songs coming our way, with hits such as Joker & the Thief and Woman.

The hits continued with The Cranberries with frontwoman Dolores O’Riordan working the crowd as she belted out beauties – Linger, Dreams and Salvation. There was potent energy behind the performance, highlighted as band and audience came as one to sing Zombie, the hauntingly beautiful song that cemented the band into the musical conscious. A stunning performance and long overdue on Australian shores.

With the aviator shades and a trimmed down afro, Lenny Kravitz arrived on stage looking every inch a rock star took to the stage and kicked into Come On Get It from his latest album, followed by the smoking Always On The Run and It Ain’t Over Till It’s Over. The hits came thick and fast with trumpet solos, guitar solos and lashings of soul making it impossible not to get in the groove.

Kravitz explained the background behind the title song of the latest album Black and White America offering an insight into his childhood and his desire to raise awareness of the interracial plight and evolvement of what America is today and after that song he ambushed the audience with the touching Stand By My Woman and soulful Believe.

More hits to included Stand, Get Away and Are You Gonna Go My Way followed by the encore Let Love Rule, which lingered as Kravitz made his way around the venue to spread the word that love is the word.
