Songs That Lux Taught Us,Mother and Son, Gorehounds,Gooch Palms @ Woodland,Brisbane (04/02/2012)

Brisbane’s Woodland put on a The Cramps tribute show in memory of Lux Interior.
Mother & Son a two piece from Wollongong start off with one man playing a ballsy 60’s blues riff of fury. Halfway through the drummer climbs on stage to take the intensity to the next level. This two piece are brimming with vim and vigour as they power through a set of 60’s surf rock inspired cramps songs, including All Women Are Bad and ending with one of their own songs.
Local Brisbane Lux Interior fans Gorehounds features members of Slug Guts/Keep On Dancin’s and The Chokes. They’re set up on the dance floor rather than on the stage and it is apparent from the lead singer’s bare-chested, red stiletto heeled rocky horror style stalking throughout the set that they will be the biggest homage to The Cramps . Their rendition of Teenage Werewolf is fast-paced and furious, the girls in the crowd reacting with some of the most amazing mod dancing you will ever see.
Newcastle’s Gooch Palms are obviously not a band who is afraid of getting into their audience’s face. There’s vulgarity, a punk cover of Bird Is The Word and by god a theremin. They whip through a set of The Cramp’s style originals with a few choice covers thrown in. The singer, who presents a confident swagger in between songs while still being a passionate performer, shows true stage presence taking up the entire tiny Woodland stage as he plays intensely before whipping his guitar off and throwing into the faces of the front row, literally. The guitarist from Gorehounds catches it triumphantly, finishing the song off. The singer then threw himself onto the crowd, all in all a night to remember for antics even Lux would approve of.
