Jebediah @ MetropolisFremantle, Perth (10/11/11)

The punters flooded into Metro’s in Fremantle to see the return of local juggernaut Jebediah bring their brand new album Kosciuszko and other teenage anthems to the front door of where it all began, bringing with them the Findlay sisters of Stonefield and what a way to warm things up.

It is very rare to go to a gig where the support band makes you wonder how the headliner will follow them, but Stonefield are just that damn good, Busting straight into Yes Master, they electrified the crowd with guitar riffs to make supposed guitar rock-gods blush – these girls fucking rock.

Racing through a rocking cover of Whole Lotta Love before finishing with Triple J unearthed anthem Through The Clover; they left the audience without doubt that this support act could quite easily have been the main course.

After a quick change over, Brett Mitchell, Nessa Thornton, Kev Mitchell and Chris Daymond floated onstage to rapturous applause and busted into older track Did You Really which quickly got the blood flowing in the front section. She’s Like a Comet and Military Strongmen kept the pace going. At this point, it has to be pointed out drummer Brett’s wobble head style and “I’m So Over This” facial expression, is hilarious and very entertaining to watch.

It really was a trip down memory lane set with many oldies getting a rinse, Falls Down, Spoil The Show and even the awesome Tracksuit were intermingled with newies like Control, Kev was in fine form, ignoring requests for Weekend Away – once again – and instead kicking on with a request for Jerks of Attention magic.

Animal had everybody jumping, even Jebs throwin’ out the rockstar moves before Harpoon and Lost My Nerve rounded out the main set. Instead of leaving the stage, Kev addressed the crowd as the “Encore” chant sounded out a little stage centre drinks break.

Apartment and sing along Leaving Home had everybody smiling, giving a quick tip of the hat to the simple explanation Star Machine, before thanking all in attendance and exiting stage left, another amazing gig by the Leeming masters, leaving us all waiting for next time.
