The Vasco Era, Papa vs. Pretty@ The Manning Bar, Sydney(28/10/11)
Tue 1st Nov, 2011 in Gig Reviews
With both bands releasing new albums, The Vasco Era has joined forces with Papa vs. Pretty on a powerful Australia wide tour. Something out of the norm was witnessed, the reversal of a normal gig with the headline act supporting the support act when Vasco Era played an electric set before Papa vs. Pretty who were playing on their own turf at Sydney’s Manning Bar.
Technical sound issues plagued The Vasco Era’s first song however; Sid’s charismatic stage presence and sense of humour prevailed and entertained the crowd by singing a Capella until the matter was resolved. From that point on, it was an immense set of raw, unapologetic rock that The Vasco Era are legendary for. Mixing material from earlier albums, along with new material from their latest self titled release, left all attending under no doubt that the new album is a belter. Anyone who has not yet seen The Vasco Era live, should rectify this without further ado.
Following up from The Vasco Era set was never going to be easy, yet the young boys from Papa vs. Pretty did not dishearten the crowd in the slightest. With critical acclaim for their debut album United in Isolation, these guys have a vast future ahead of them. The unexpected maturity of the voice of Thomas Rawle shines through and coupled with an incredibly tight backing sound, they were spot on. So far these guys have had noticeable slots with one of those being at the Peats Ridge festival over New Years last year and proved even then that they were destined for big things. So far, they’re bang on track.
