Suicide Silence @ The Wall,Sydney (10/9/2011)

Sydney heavyweights Northlane were at it again in their almost trademark style of pure mosh, mosh, MOSH! These guys have come a long way since the garage days and it’s only been in a few short years. Long have they stopped playing every local PC-YC in every corner of Australia, – every so often they feel nostalgic and play another PC-YC show – they’ve since move on to bigger and bigger things. Supporting Suicide Silence tonight is one of their finest achievements and they proudly add it to their portfolio. These Aussies know what it takes to make you move and they’re finely honed tunes never fail to do anything but just that. It’s never hard to see this band live because they are simply always playing so check them out to see some homegrown talent.

To continue the Australian onslaught of chaos Resist The Thought took to the stage. This band is so big in the local scene right now that they almost burst at the seams whenever they play. No venue can contain the hype they create with their every song and their every set. No matter where this band goes their army of fans always follow and they always multiply like bacteria without fail. That fan-base isn’t handed out lightly which makes it nothing but deserving and the reason shines through everytime they play. They know how to put on a quality show there’s no doubt about that and honestly their music gets better with age. Everyone should check out this band because they are easily one Sydney hardcore’s biggest exports ever.

Ground breaking American death metal act Suicide Silence have been turning heads for a lot of the wrong reasons in the lead up to their latest tour in support of new album, The Black Crown. Some true blooded fans of the past glory days of monster 2007 album, The Cleansing, have met the new album with distaste. Some even going far enough to blame it for poor ticket sales causing the very late venue change from renowned Sydney metal venue, The UNSW Roundhouse to the much less welcome, The Wall at the Bald Faced Stag.

With the addition of this style changing new material the fans seemed divided with many original fans choosing to ignore the new album entirely. Though in saying the response has not been the best at a recorded level but on a live level the story is a completely different one. Despite the huge size difference between the two venues the packed crowd still made the most out of the small space when every single song was played; both new and old.

Playing past favourites and fresh faced tracks throughout the set it made sure no one left unsatisfied. The one disappointing note about this talented band was that only nine months ago Suicide Silence co-headlined 2010’s No Sleep Til Festival. The crowds that attended they’re sets on the festival front were exceptional so it begs the question that is all of this band’s unluckiness of late solely to be blamed on the new record or was it just a bad time for this kind of tour. Never the less the fans that showed up to Leichardt tonight, despite everything, still got their moneys worth of pure American death metal.
