Chaingang, The Protectors,Crash The Curb @ Transit Bar,Canberra (10/3/11)

On a wet and miserable, Canberra night Transit Bar was hit with a clash of indie and punk rock. Locals Crash the Curb set the tone for the minimal crowd.

With their very unique style of dress, Sydney band The Protectors then took to the stage. Having toured last year with their EP Tarantula and having been played on Triple J countless times the group showed why they had previously sold out venues. They played a solid set and gained the crowd’s attention with their strong stage presence. With the small crowd, each band showed their support and watched each other’s sets.

Fresh from a tour of America where they played a number of showcase gigs, Sydney group Chaingang started their tour of their self titled EP, which is soon to be released. Vicarious frontwoman Hayley Foster brought the energy to the group’s hard hitting music, which could be best described as infectious rock. Disregarding the size of the crowd, the group and particularly Foster exuberated confidence. Foster loving the attention, played up to the cameras and took the show to the crowd by jumping off the stage throughout a number of songs. Foster had the crowd in her hand as her piercing voice penetrated Transit Bar. More popular songs played included Holiday and Crazy.

After thanking the crowd and praising the venue, Foster herself stated that she too would hang out at such a cool venue. The group closed the night with the track Get Off My Stage. With such infectious, danceable tunes it would be great to see Chaingang with a larger more responsive crowd.
