Grafton Primary, Infusion &AEONS @ Oxford Art Factory,Sydney (16/10/10)

When it comes to throwing your own ‘welcome back to town’ party, Grafton Primary are experts. The Sydney-side Garden brothers had every element down pat for an engaging live show; from the favoured Oxford Art Factory venue choice to lining up two killer support acts which lured in a truly golden audience comprised of punters best described as keen to hear a sneak peek of Grafton’s exclusive Sophomore album due for release next year.
The young night opened with local act AEONS; an electro twosome who were recently awarded finalists in LG’s Unsigned band competition. Suffice to say, the boys played an impressive live set to anticipating fans interested in experiencing a broader sound than single, Beyond the Satellite.
Next up came the Wollongong-hailing synth-laden trio, Infusion, who had no trouble pleasing an already pumped crowd with their energetic tunes predominately off the latest album All Night Sun Light. Close your eyes and envision a marriage of vivid flashing lights and melodic hooks taking over OAF’s dance floor.
By the time Grafton Primary hit the stage, it was only natural for punters to swing wooden spatulas and soup spoons in the air of the mosh pit’s forefront. Sure they jumped around loudly in a crazy fashion, but the amusing crowd weren’t foolish enough to poke any eyes out. They just wanted to celebrate the release of Grafton’s Eagle single.
The set list was mixed with both new and classic material. It glimmered with the pretty soundscapes in All Stars and the ultra-cosmic I Can Cook. A fresh tune I believe titled Living is Sacred was also an audience pleaser.
Despite Grafton Primary being out of Australia for many months, the guys had no trouble seamlessly educating, innovating and liberating their home town crowd once again. Their OAF show confirmed that they’re certainly not dull in concert; prancing around the stage to a sound heavily inspired by eighties and nineties synthesizers.
