Little Red @ Oxford ArtFactory, Sydney (17/07/10)
Mon 19th Jul, 2010 in Gig Reviews
Oxford St was alive with activity and there was obvious anticipation in the queues outside Oxford Arts Factory as Little Red were moments away from stepping on stage and the crowd packed inside were almost bursting from their skins to get the party started.
Adrian, Dom, Tom, Taka and Quang finally sauntered on stage and began an assault on the ears of every single person in the room.
The sound was loud, but not overpowering and it was easy to see why Little Red has developed such a huge following, what with the cheeky smiles and flirtations flying off the stage. It’s Alright proved to be a crowd favourite, with screams coming from all directions. But it was Fight Song that saw the guys really settle in and their individual style come out. As for the drumming, I wouldn’t even know where to start! Let’s just say it’s kick ass and if you happen to see Taka put stick to drum anytime soon, you’re in for a real treat.
As Tom Hartney took the lead at centre stage, the little gem Little Annie gave us scenes reminiscent of the Rolling Stones back in the day, with Hartney swaggering in a way that would make Mick Jagger proud. I mean you have to be doing something right when even the door staff are getting their groove on!
You’d expect new single Rock It to receive the most enthusiastic response. Well that’s exactly what the audience gave, and proceeded to dance their butts off with the cheesiest of grins on their faces. With a catchy melody and lyrics to go with, there was nothing but wall to wall hands in the air; even the staircase was covered as security frantically tried to move everyone along without disrupting the happy times.
A bunch a new tracks gave the punters a preview of the upcoming second album and it was refreshing to see a band simply loving the stage, having fun and banging out their tunes.
Despite the stage seeming a teensy bit overcrowded (the horn section, was actually off the stage), Litlte Red managed to pull off the high-energy show that they’ve become famous for delivering.
