Are you Brash? Are you Sassy?
Future Shorts is a global film festival showcasing the best of short films in sixty cities and nineteen countries, with an online audience of over one million connected followers. Its aim is to change how audiences view short films, using live music to score the films, actors interacting with the audience and various other mediums to shake up traditional ways of viewing cinema. Brash and Sassy had the task of setting the atmosphere and introducing the night of international entertainment.
The words retro and electro effectively sum up the sound created by the pop, disco, new wave group. Dressed in eclectic glamour, the band looked as though they had stepped right out of the eighties through a white bucket of paint and fit right in to the retro revival that is occurring right now.
The female leads who are Brash and Sassy had a fantastic stage presence that drew the audience’s eyes and ears to their performance. Their electronic synths and unconventional electric drums combined with the voices of Ana Loverock, and Gennaia Febbraio who at times sounded comparable the haunting vocals of Kate Bush.
Brash and Sassy released their awaited single earlier this year No Milk For You -their milk theme continued to run throughout their tracks as Splash described the story of a woman’s journey on her quest for milk.
With each song it felt as though an entirely new story was being told, and the ladies brought a fresh new perspective with which to tell it, almost putting on a new persona to match the song.
Brash and Sassy are the ultimate creative act to introduce a night of creativity through film. Their song writing reflected personal stories, or accounts of people’s lives, a theme which was followed through in the shorts.
