Canberra’s hottest dance music festival Warehouse couldn’t have come at a cooler time. Proving itself, another very successful year with Kicks Entertainment witnessing the thousands upon thousands roll into their ‘must-be-at’ event. And even though the first day of May was chilly that didn’t stop hundreds of people getting their festival on: costumes, fluoros and glow sticks which turned the cold AIS Arena into a scorching fun and exciting venue.

Whether you were there for music or some form of social interaction, in the end it was the soundscape that you couldn’t escape. Music was pretty much non stop from noon in The Arena, The Terrace and The Club. The Arena heard sounds from RyFy, Kid Sister, Sam Scratch, LMFAO and other great spinners. The show stealer in the arena had to be the one and only – The Bloody Beetroots Death Crew 77. Not only was their masks eye catching, but the fact they were hot with the live band thing going on. As well as the ability to capture the crowd with their creepy, punk electric sounds; the crowd got the fist pump happening right from the moment they unleashed Warp 1977.

Even though The Arena was constantly pumping, there was often the temptation to slip outside for a smoke or just a fresh breath. Either that or just you just had to keep the party everywhere, right? Plenty were gathered in The Terrace for the amazing Green Velvet with Turn It Up techno-funking the hell out of everybody. Also epic – MSTRKRFT with bodies just getting hectic. It was Netherlands’ Bingo Players who took it down strangely – yet still made it move, making mosh punters get a little Poptimistic .

Between outside and the masses of bodies located in the arena you found a little stage called The Club. Here it was the epic club sounds from people like Biggie & Alex, Peekz and more fun sets. Around 9 pm this reviewer reminisces an awesome dance pit for closing set Doctor Werewolf.

If music wasn’t your highest priority – there was several locations for just chilling. A lounge area and seating park where many were found on the outside scoring themselves a seat. Those who went exploring found that the venue was easy to get around, an improvement from 2009. And if there was the possibility that you were intoxicated by alcohol or some form of narcotic, you could probably still find your way around with your eyes closed. Or maybe that’s the thing – if you were ‘lost’, it wouldn’t matter because the party seemed to be here there and everywhere that day. Either way – a sober and clumsy reviewer got to and fro easy and fast. Facilities such as toilets, bars and food stalls were not far to find either – and amazingly the wait wasn’t at all long.

Big kudos to the organisers! The only let down was the lack of colour and confetti we’ve seen in previous years. But having said that, this was an excellent festival and will remain one of Canberra’s best for years.
