The Bedroom Philosopher, JoshEarl @ The Front, Canberra,(28/4/2010)

A warm coffee shop played host to two outstanding comedians who fused music with their wild-ish antics last Wednesday night at The Front. The freezing cold and midweek fever brought out a small crowd who squeezed into squishy arm chairs sipping fine wines and downing refreshing lager.

First up was Josh Earl. Tasmanian, librarian, Edit: Ex-librarian and on tour with The Bedroom Philosopher. His self proclaimed lesbian haircut and half-size guitar made him the centre of attention before he even started his set. He opened with a song about himself, introducing his likes, dislikes and his funny little mannerisms and insignificant details of his life that the audience loved nevertheless. They easily lapped up his quirky Justin Bieber facts and the random quick witted remarks which occurred frequently in his performance. The stingy audience outside ignored the fire twirlers and watched seedily through the window. The warmer indoor crowd enjoyed a much more vivid experience of the great Josh Earl.

The Bedroom Philosopher aka Justin Heazlewood was finally on his way. In pyjama pants and socks he entered the room to an already side-split audience who was silently paralysed in frozen laughter. Mostly famous due to his wondrous creation I’m So Postmodern, the crowd was interested in what the new Bedroom Philosopher album Songs From The 86 Tram gives to the music scene. He played new tunes like In My Day (Nan) and New Media while philosophising about life in the shoes of a woman. Heazlewood cut his thumb halfway through his set and thanks to some quick first aid and audience participation he was quickly back to rocking out to some older classics like Party In My Head and Saving Myself For Marriage. He finished his set with a visit to the seedy folks outside, gave the finger to the audience and abruptly forced his own encore. The Front crowd shared a love for Golden Gaytime and The Bedroom Philosopher ended with his first single off his new album Northcote (So Hungover).
