Playing to a packed Troubadour on Friday night, Adelaide’s The Sundance Kids put on their now almost trademark flawless performance.
To start off the night Brisbane boys Buick Six played a solid indie rock set complete with intricate guitar riffs and heavy bass lines. Buick Six have been getting around town of late with their catchy tunes and tonight’s performance highlighted why this band is steadily gaining more and more fans. With a little more experience and stage time, these boys should be a force to be reckoned with.
Following the alternative rock styling’s of Buick Six, adopted Brisbane boys Ellington captured the hearts of the crowd with their sweeter than sweet songs of pretty girls and young love. The Ellington lads have been around for a few years now and their sound has continued to evolve and mature, while still retaining its original innocence and catchy pop roots. Mixing their softer, acoustic material with their slightly heavier material backed with a full band, the boys showed that it’s in the heavier songs where Ellington are really at their best. With the slightly more upbeat and energetic material the crowd really started to enjoy the captivating, heartfelt lyrics, reminiscent of Jamison Parker and early Scene Aesthetic. All in all, a great set and excellent choice of support act for The Sundance Kids.
After being on the road for the most of the past month, one could easily forgive The Sundance Kids for being a bit less than enthusiastic playing yet another show. That wasn’t necessary, as the boys were as energetic and entertaining as if it were their first show of the tour.
Playing a range of songs off their latest release Fall into Place including Starting Today, Collide and Burn So Bright, The Sundance Kids had the crowd singing and dancing right alongside the stage throughout the set. With their effortless banter and their obvious love for their music and each other, the boys managed to execute a catchy, melodic set, impressing their already loyal Brisbane fans. Even after testing some new material including Let It Go and Wish I Knew You, the audience were still just as infatuated as before.
The Sundance Kids yet again managed to execute a flawless show and it is really not hard to see why these boys have become so popular and sought after in the past year. With any lucky The Sundance Kids* will continue to move from strength to strength, but hopefully continue to play such intimate, almost house party-ish gigs that have made them the charming and enjoyable band that they are.
