Dead Letter Circus, Jericco @The Espy, Melbourne(5/03/2010)

Melbourne based progressive rock outfit Jericco started things off at the Espy, comprised of some highly talented and skilled players of multi-layered middle eastern inspired hard rock. Emitting such a clean, almost mystical sound, it’s hard not to be impressed with their performance. Brent McCormick’s vocal delivery was spot on, making for a great set. Definitely check Jericco out for yourself if you get the chance.

Next up on the bill was the men of the hour, Dead Letter Circus, who have been going from strength to strength since their formation in 2005, impressing all those who have the pleasure of seeing them perform. Through word-of-mouth and regular airplay on the national youth broadcaster, they have grown to become powerhouse performers on the local music landscape.

Playing a tight set of songs ranging from their first EP, all the way through to tracks of their upcoming debut LP, This Is The Warning, Dead Letter Circus satisfied every member of the sold out crowd crammed into the Gershwin room.

Front man Kim Benzie was pitch perfect, as was the rest of the band in their respective roles. Rob Maric (Guitar), Stewart Hill (Bass) and Luke Williams (Drums) performed every second of every song to the standard if not better than on recording. Benzie, it should be said, has also developed quite the commanding stage presence and he captivated the eager crowd with every moment of this cracking show. Crowd favourites Lines , Disconnect And Apply , Reaction and Next In Line were all executed beautifully to the delight of those at Espy.

Dead Letter Circus’s show was an energetic, theatrical and harmonic rock performance from a band that is destined for great things. If it is anything to go by, then their forthcoming album is certainly worth getting excited about.
