Spinnerette @ The Factory,Sydney (5/3/10)

Brody Dalle returned home to play for the first time since she brought The Distillers out in 2004 and in that time she’s gone through a divorce, remarried and gave birth to a daughter. She has also matured in her song writing and performing. Arguably one of the best rock chick vocalists of new millennium, with her new band Spinnerette she shows a greater range in her voice. The trademark husky screams are still there but the anger and angst is now replaced with love and fulfillment.

The one thing that doesn’t change is Brody’s ability to rock. Performing tracks off Spinnerette’s debut album, she prowled the stage and engaged in the crowd during songs Ghetto Love, Sex Bomb and The Babes Are Wolves.

Keeping the banter to a minimum and focusing purely on entertaining the solid turn out, Spinnerette didn’t disappoint. The band Brody has assembled bring a new life to the songs. You could see that Brody herself enjoys playing music again and as fans, it’s good to see her back up on stage.

Tonight we may not of seen the best of Brody or Spinnerette, but we did get a great reminder of how much Brody rocks. The best part is leaving with the excitement that in the next few years we will see her and the band improve and provide the world with what we haven’t seen in years.
