The Big Pink @ Amplifier,Perth (3/3/2010)

There have been whispers across the globe about the greatness of The Big Pink for some time now. Their debut album was stellar and they matched that with festival appearances and amazing shows all over several different continents.
The first chance for Australian audiences to see the band came at Perth’s Amplifier Bar, more affectionately known as Amps. It is hard to sell tickets on a weeknight in Perth, so it was good to see that it was at least half full with the city’s most avid music lovers.
An Horse and Emperors supported the British quartet in fine form. Though, more people seemed to hang out in the beer garden than inside actually watching them.
The Big Pink climbed onto the stage to play their much loved take of lo-fi melodies and buzzed out tones. Some press floating around about the band said that every song on album A Brief History Of Love could be a single and that’s exactly what it felt like seeing them live.
There was an instant connection between band and punters and everyone lapped it up with such vigour and grace that the hour long set flew by. The punters knew that they were witnessing something great and shuffled about on the dance floor accordingly. Songs Too Young To Love and Velvet were met with the biggest applause.
No songs on A Brief History Of Love were left untouched so there was no need for an encore.
