Aeroplane DJs, Mikah Freeman,Celebrity Sex Tape @ Lot 33,Canberra, (25/01/10)

It was a lucky bunch of people that the PANG! peeps pleased on Australia Day eve. Any night that involves Belgians finest DJ duo, Aeroplane, is going to be good. For those who saw the guys at Parklife in 2009, everyone knew the fun in store. The other major plus (or minus, depending on your crowd preferences) was that it was one of the only major events planned on Australia Day eve.
In the last few years, the PANG! name has become synonymous with their ability to book the biggest and the best, and almost always please their crowd. (That one Booka Shade instance seems to have been all but forgotten by their faithful followers). This time was no different.
Local acts Biggie and Scottie Fischer kicked off the night, battling out to an optimistic dance floor. These guys not only know what they’re doing, they prove that the DJ talent in Canberra is just as strong and thriving as any other major city on our nation’s map.
Followed by the illustrious Celebrity Sex Tape and later, Aston Shuffle’s Mikah Freeman, the night grew from strength to strength. While comparatively new to the decks, Sex Tape has found his feet and the beat, fast. Both DJs did what all great DJs should do, get everyone there excited about the headliners of the night. The constant grow of people on the dance floor and a general buzz in the air that mounted more and more as minutes ticked away and jaws chomped together, the night would have been good even if it stopped there.
By the time 2.30am rolled around and the contemplation of sleep began to creep in, two of the biggest men in the dance world appeared and changed everything. Stephan Fasano and Vito De Luca know how to do it. You only need to hear their Friendly Fires or Sebastian Tellier remixes to know it. They are absolute puppeteers of a crowd, deciding where and when and how to make the night unravel. Apart from a few pathetic fights, the floor was awash with people thrashing around and feeling like there was a jackhammer of disco pop finding it’s way into the brain, with Aeroplane’s name stamped firmly all over it. Every song was meticulously delivered, and the grins couldn’t be wiped from people’s faces. And when they finally ended it all at 4am, there was nothing but satisfied customers to be seen.
