It was another beautiful Perth day in picturesque Kings Park, the perfect place to wind down after the working week, enjoy some fine wine and Awesome live music thanks to Mellen Events.

An intimate, yet spacious crowd were on hand to see the incredibly beautiful and soulful Mama Kin kick off proceedings. With flawless vocal delivery and bop along piano keys, they kept the crowd moving with Women’s Life and new single Tore My Heart Out -music lovers beware.

Claire Bowditch shimmied onstage as the sun seemed to sink by the second, Looking as beautiful as ever, she strutted out Your Other Hand and took apart the faithful with a rendition of David Bowie’s Heroes. The awesome Start Of War single rounded out a wonderful set, by one of Australia’s most talented ladies.

A little behind time, the sun had all but set when Augie March graced the stage. Lead man Glenn Richards was well on song, holding an almost Neil Finn-ish presence onstage. Rocking through most songs off Moo, You Bloody Choir and Watch Me Disappear, the Perth crowd really only wanted one thing and they held it off till the very last song. A rousing and beautiful rendition of One Crowded Hour was the perfect warm up sing along for the man who was to come next.

With minimal fanfare, Paul Kelly launched straight into Nothing On My Mind. You’re 39, you’re Beautiful and Your Mine worked well, with the harmonica complementing the effects of the swirling pink back drop.

Before Too Long came and went, leaving many feeling a little nostalgic, Singles Deeper Water and Darling It Hurts had heads bobbing and booties shaking, while hits like Dumb Things and To Her Door saw the crowd drown out the main man as they took over the vocal duties.

Throughout the night, Kelly had been asking the audience, “Did anyone bring the peas and potatoes?” or “Who’s got the roast beef?” building to his finale that he “brought the gravy”, and then of course the song How To Make Gravy which left the Perth faithful praying for a quick return from one of Australia’s all time greatest singer song writers.
