An attentive red wine sipping crowd partnered with two amazing songwriters, made this gig one of beautiful sombre tales and charming tunes.

Scott Matthew, originally from Queensland but now based in New York, has been somewhat absent in the Australian music scene for a number of years. Heading back home in time for Christmas, a cosy show in Melbourne and Brisbane and to support Sia- œs upcoming shows, Mr. Matthew is quite the treat. His dark yet epic voice so easily creates soundscapes of the mind. Supported by his ukulele and an accompanying piano, the Northcote Social Club was the perfect sounding board to this mans unique voice and talent.

Somewhat familiar with Matthews tunes since his involvement in John Cameron Mitchel’s 2006 film Shortbus, this Melbourne performance was a wonderfully informal yet unique experience. There was not a sound to be heard from the audience whilst Matthew’s performed his most well known single White Horse. His ability to create and extend his imagination seemed to immediately filter through into the crowd, creating an almost surreal atmosphere. The artists graciousness and few words between songs added to the intimacy of the gig.

Also adding to gentle persona of the night was the support of Melbourne’s Single Twin aka Marcus Teague of Deloris fame, who opened the evening with his skilful song writing and delicate voice. On the brink of launching a new EP, Came Home Dead, in both Melbourne and Sydney, Teague has taken all that was brilliant and loved in Deloris, spun it about in a folk tale type way and created a truly warm and thoughtful sound in Single Twin.

Nobody has hearted this, be the first!
