Packing Canberra’s Transit Bar to nearly full capacity, Sydney band Philadelphia Grand Jury came to visit, and brought Kid Sam along for the ride.

Melbourne duo Kid Sam rocked the Kasbah first, taking a minimalist approach with their background and stage performance. The stark red painted wall behind the fellas was strangely comforting, in a harsh sort of way. Doesn’t make sense, I know, but it was. In fact, their music could be considered minimalist, in that, by playing with only drums and guitar (plus vocals) Kid Sam is capable of crafting delicate songs with a simple approach and subtle lyrics.

Telling the audience - œThanks for coming down to see us’, Kid Sam held the attention of everyone in the room. The strong garage-style drumming was a pleasure to listen to, intensifying the gravelly voice and sombre lyrics of most of the set list.

In town for their - œHope is for the Hopers’ tour, Philadelphia Grand Jury jumped up onto the stage next, and showed Canberra why they are making it big in such a short time.

Funky beats and funny lyrics make Philadelphia Grand Jury (PGJ) an awesome act to watch perform, as well as listen too. The guys just seemed like they are having heaps of fun together, sending out a party vibe to the crowded room at Transit Bar. Having released their debut album in September, the crowd liked what they heard from PGJ and soaked up the cool atmosphere.
