Listening to the music that SubAudible Hum create is like undertaking a mystical journey into a world that consists of nothing but auditory pleasures, though at times things can sometimes seem eerie and perhaps even foreboding, it doesn’t really matter, because your enjoying yourself and having such a great time that, in the end, it just adds to the whole experience.
The above-mentioned sequence of events is a accurate description of what transpired when SubAudible Hum performed on October 17th, when they played at the Revolver Band Room as part of their Tall Stories album launch tour.
Right form the opening chords of Bakersfield C.A the first track of both the Tall Stories LP, and the night itself, SubAudible Hum had transfixed their eager audience with the aura that they were emitting from stage throughout their entire performance.
Lead singer Daniel Griffith’s haunting vocals were spot on tonight, as were the musical stylings of every other band member, it was easy to tell that they were pretty confident and self assured as to the performance of their new material, and rightly so; Flexing In The Dust and Tokyo Craigieburn & The Moon and lead single of the album Our Last Stand were all just captivating musical experiences.
One of my favourite moments of the set came when, during a moment of percussion there was not one, two but three band members playing drums; something that I had never seen before, though it felt like a natural, organic progression of the performance that simply added to the rich sound-scape that they were creating.
It’s easy to see just exactly why SubAudible Hum have garnered so much critical and public acclaim with their unique cinematic/theatrical sound, one which is only amplified when performed in a live setting. I walked away from the show that night, satisfied and content, as did every other member of the audience, as we had all shared in witnessing a truly magical experience.
