The lineup to get into the Hi-Fi Bar is usually quite extensive for an under 18 show. Not the case this Wednesday, with a small crowd of 200 gathered for the night’s show.
Brisbane lads Ellington opened the show shortly after the audience had ventured inside. Having previously opened for Short Stack, Ellington have earned themselves some loyal followers who were clearly present at tonight’s show. The majority of the crowd, however, didn’t respond well to them until they played their new song Turning Troubles Into Love which launched some screaming fans into a jumping frenzy. Ellington played well but their mellowness just didn’t seem to suit the genre of the night.
Skeet Skeet, an awesome DJ from the U.S changed the atmosphere in the room as soon as he graced the stage. No one would’ve guessed it was his first time here as he seemed so comfortable performing. He mixed songs from Cobra Starship, Daft Punk, MGMT, Dizzee Rascal and The Black Eyed Peas to name a few. During his remix of Katy Perry’s Hot N Cold he even pulled an excited audience member up onstage to sing and dance with him. After pumping out some intense beats for 45 minutes to a now ecstatic crowd, Skeet left the stage to make way for 3OH!3.
Coming out loud and strong, Sean Foreman and Nathaniel Motte commanded the attention of the audience from the first beats of Punk B*tch to the closing song Don’t Trust Me. Constantly roaming the stage and entertaining the small crazed mob, Sean showcased some interesting dance moves including the kangaroo hop and the Tassie devil. Both boys ventured into the audience on numerous occasions, getting up a bit close and sometimes too personal with the punters. Highlights of the set were Rich Man, their new single Starstruck and predictably Don’t Trust Me. Motte spent the majority of the song moshing and singing amongst the rowdy audience, who were all disappointed when the last song finished at the end of their incredibly energetic set.
Being such a small show enabled the gig to feel personal and intimate, and the 3OH!3 boys seem to enjoy every minute, belting out their songs with ease. This reviewer thinks no one walked away feeling remotely disappointed.
