I’ve heard stories from friends about nights out and shenanigans had that seem to go for days at Revolver, so naturally I was curious as to how my night was going to play out. Though on making my way into the band room, the stories faded and I got right down to enjoying some good music.

First up for this were Polaroid Fame, a Byron Bay quintet that dabbles rather well in the realm of electro, pop-ish rock – though it’s hard not to be a sucker for any band that has a female keyboardist. Stand out tracks included Facing Extinction and Where Did We Go?.

Next were local lads Detective Social, who Google tells me have been paying their dues around the Melbourne circuit for the last few years now, and recently received national airplay on triple j. The aura surrounding Detective Social must be a powerful one because not only do they emit a solid rock performance during their set, but they also seem to affect the spirit world as well, for halfway during their set a inanimate tool box that had been sitting on the side of the stage all night just decided to fly out a land on the dance floor of the room, seemingly unaided; was this the work of poltergeists? ...maybe.

At the risk of offending any loyal Angela’s Dish fans Ikarii, a four piece rock outfit from the Mornington Peninsula, were the highlight of the night. Their set featured solid performances all round, with a catchy indie pop-rock sound, and great vocals from lead singer Marshy, who also has a dynamic stage presence. Ikarii are an outfit that is definitely destined for bigger things.

Angela’s Dish displayed just how far they had come both as musicians and showman since I’d last caught them supporting 30 Seconds to Mars in 2007. As they hit the stage and lead singer Michael Harris uttered his first words, you could tell just exactly why they have such a loyal fan base all around Australia. Playing a mixture of songs old and new, the gig was also a chance to display to songwriting talents of Joshua Harris, who took also took lead vocals on one track. With a great show of their solid punkish rock songs they delivered a punch to the listener’s auditory facilities and pleased a lot of eager fans in the crowd.
