The Preytells, The PrioryDolls @ Curtin Bandroom,Melbourne (4/10/2009)
Mon 5th Oct, 2009 in Gig Reviews
The Dowlings were first to take to the stage with their distinctive brand of indie rock setting the atmosphere for the evening and gave everyone a kick of energy. The band blazed through their set with ease, making it clear they knew what they were doing. I expect to hear great things from them in the future. They were followed by The Priory Dolls. Having previously known some of the band members from their past project, Peyote, I anticipated a good show. Their blend of psychedelic and indie rock fit very well with the voice of singer Jeremy Mair. Their songs carried through the room with power that many better known bands can only dream of, and they were a fine addition to the evening.
The night’s headliners The Preytells, from Perth ended the evening with their brand of indie pop rock that will soon be heard just about anywhere people enjoy delicate melodies that will melt your soul in a heartbeat. Opening their set with the fast paced Nowhere to Run, the band clearly enjoyed themselves on stage. The instrumentation of their songs, with the solid rhythms provided by drummer Jaclyn Pearson, and the intricate lead guitar melodies courtesy of guitarist, Audrey Tell, proved to fit together perfectly with the voice of guitarist/vocalist William Tell. Every song seemed crafted with skill and care, and as anyone who hears the Preytells will discover, they are addictive. Building up the atmosphere throughout the show, the band connected with an audience in a way that both left everyone satisfied, yet wanting much, much more.
