It may be a much-used cliché but it can be said without a doubt that some people are just natural born entertainers. Sydney’s Bluejuice fall into this category as their stage antics and charisma have made them the national and international wild boys of rock n roll!

They have built up a strong legacy for leaving fans completely riveted and bruised beyond amazement at their Canberra shows.
At their previous Transit Bar shows they horrified staff and security by leaving the place trashed and in the process Jake Stone was nearly left with a broken ankle. Maybe their new hit single Broken Leg is about these experiences.

And who could forget their last show at ANU Bar as part of the Big O Festival where during their set Jake swung his microphone around in his usual fashion and accidently let go of it and ended up hitting a punter in the front row!

Their show at the ANU Bar last Saturday night was no exception as crowd was left battered, bruised and soaking wet as a result of the band squirting water on the crowd.

To kick off the wild weekend of madness was Canberra support Hancock Basement. Mindful of whom they were supporting the boys ensured that they played up their stage charisma and exploits to the max with extended guitar solos, spinning of guitars, screaming vocals and not to mention Nick Beresford-Wylie’s saxophone solo in We Started Something.

Following Bluejuice around for their Head of the Hawk tour is fellow Sydney outfit The Jezabels. They were an interesting choice for the headliners as they’re music genres and styles are vastly different. The bels have a magical essence in their music that has won Jake Stone over as he came out into the crowd to watch their set.

The only crack in his plan however, was several of the male punters wanted to hang out and talk to him while he was trying to take in Hayley Mary’s powerful and seamless vocals in Disco Biscuit Love and Be A Star to name a few. This obviously was getting to him after he repeatedly told those punters that he was trying to watch the show and that he’d talk to them later.

This fact alone mildly dampened upon The Jezabels set as a some of the crowd were too busy watching Jake’s kafuffle unfold instead of soaking up the soft peaceful allure of The Jezabels. However they finished their set on top of the game as there was a collective bunch of fans that were asking for autographs and photos at the end of their set.

After a lengthy changeover period while punters put on their shoulder and knee pads but surprisingly no skipping ropes, the boys from Bluejuice took to the stage and once again enacted their unique brand of chaos to add to their stockpile of live performance folklore.

This was kinda like a – œBest Of’ show as they whipped out songs old and new and songs that haven’t even made it to the studio yet. This show was their first on their national tour, and it by far set the standard for shows yet to come. There was screaming vocals, crowd surfing, damage to the stage and roof (accidently of course) and overall rock n roll charisma.

It’s a relief to see that fame hasn’t got to their head and they haven’t lost their wild qualities that catapulted them to stardom here and overseas.

Even though they appear on family friendly shows like Sunrise and Wide World of Sports during the day, they are still the wild boys we’ve all come to know and love at night.

With all the damage done so far after two albums, I wonder what they have up their sleave next?
