To celebrate the release of the video game Fifa 10, and the big news that Children Collide’s song Skeleton Dance is being included on the official soundtrack, JB Hi Fi Bourke St launched the game by hosting Children Collide in store, performing a 30 minute long set for a group of eager fans and unaware customers.

A small crowd, no bigger than 30 to 40 people gathered in the centre of JB Hi Fi as Children Collide performed a rather long but nonetheless engaging in store performance. Opening with Chosen Armies, the trio blasted their brand of rock throughout JB Hi Fi, shaking some DVD racks and gaining new fans from various onlookers.

Continuing with We Live in Fear, it was rather clear that Children Collide possess the power to rock out in small environments. Reports from recent gigs at the Corner Hotel told of moshing crowds, bruised bodies, bloodied lips, spilt beer and an energetic atmosphere that only one of Australia’s hottest up and coming bands could possess. It’s a bit hard to recreate such an environment in a record store, but the location allowed for a more intimate, up close and personal experience. With opening track from The Long Now, entitled Across the Earth, Children Collide continued their mini domination of JB Hi Fi, shaking the floor, jumping all over the stage and generally having a blast.

It was hard not to move around sing along with the band to the song. Next up, Children Collide played Fifa 10 feature song Skeleton Dance, with some die hard Children Collide fans singing along for the ride, fists pumping.

With a few songs left, Children Collide opted to play their most famous and popular tracks for the crowd, first launching into We Are Amphibious. Many in the crowd new the words, so continuing the trend, the next track to be played was the catchy, and undeniably brilliant Farewell Rocketship. Lead singer Johnny Mackay stretches his vocals, even singing into his guitar. Children Collide finished the set with Social Currency, a song with such a distinguishing opening guitar riff that grabs the listener and doesn’t let go, until the song is over.

Children Collide no doubt left a mark on JB and shook the floor more than the construction site currently surrounding the building. The band then stuck around to talk with fans, and sign some autographs after the performance. For a free gig on a Thursday afternoon, punters in JB Hi Fi could not have asked for a better performance than the one given by Children Collide.
