The Aussie Hip Hop talents of Pez, Seth Sentry and surprise guest Tys got together and put on a killer show at Canberra’s ANU Bar last Wednesday. The boys all brought supporting guests to add to the fun. Joining Pez was hip hop star 360, and an extremely impressive vocalist by the name of Hailey Cramer. Seth Sentry was backed up by the well endowed DJ Jackie Splash, who delivered a stack of beats to bust out to.

The night began a little on the slow side. People had been rolling in since seven or eight but the show didn’t start until about 10 pm. After the wait, the crowd seemed a little reluctant to get straight in for a boogie, but as Tys and accompanying crew gave praise to the Canberra people, they started to move forward and share a little bit of the love that was being thrown their way.

As Tys eventually got some of that love from the crowd, he started upping the ante, and spat out a sick acappella for the fans, and although the set was short, he showed how much of his own potential had been made use of. Seth Sentry promptly skipped on stage and introduced himself in a loving way. His observational humour and – œevery day life’ concept rubbed off well, and his aim to raise the mood from 3 out of 10 to a possible 9 out of 10 proved successful by the end of the set. Playing all of his current hits including, Simple Game and of course The Waitress Song, the room was filled with supporting vocals. Everyone knew the words. It was a wave of excitement and judging by Sentry’s face, a joy to be a part of.

Pez, 360 and Hailey Cramer strolled on stage with plenty to offer. Knowing that everyone was keen for their hit The Festival Song, they teased the crowd with a snippet of the intro and the crowd went wild, they quickly lost their smiles when they cut the track and made out like they’d made some sort of mistake…. But having plenty of killer tunes to dish out, the audience had no need to worry. Pez was giving out props to the Canberra crowd all night, he loved it…and so did they.

The set consisted mostly of songs from the latest album Mind of My Own. The Festival Song being the biggest hit right now, was finally delivered, and hugely appreciated. Again, even with a small audience everyone sang along almost like an organized choir, with strength and passion and true love for the music.

Coming to the end of the performance, Pez brought Seth Sentry on stage to share a song, and even show off a little in the dance category, Seth had it covered and the song was super fun. When Pez and the crew were giving thanks and heading off stage, the audience were all set for the clap and stamp for an encore, and with much respect, Pez stepped back out bringing everyone along, they gave one last song, a new one, which had the crowd roaring, not only in excitement but in hysterics. Dry Sex was by far the highlight of the evening. Having gone out with a bang they’d surely reached 10 out of 10 on the entertainment scale.

Hip Hop, R&B, rap, accapella’s and pure stealthy beats made for one very entertaining night. Once each performer had stepped off stage they made there way to meet the people, sell and sign some albums and of course to share a few beers.

Let’s hope these fellas from Melbourne drop by again real soon, because knowing Canberra’s hip hop scene and fan base, the shows will only get bigger and better.
