The September edition of Gangbusters at Bar 32 managed to maintain its standards and charisma that has transformed this monthly event from an underground workout into a renown, independent and unique montage of alternative music.
For the most part a lot of the same crowd tend to rock up at Bar 32 for events like Gangbusters and REV. Last Thursday night it was great to see a few new faces about the place who picked a perfect night to be introduced to the allure of Bar 32.
This time around Perth bad boy and shock pop/rock extraordinaire Tomas Ford was back in force to conquer the bar in his prominent manner that has become folk lore.
To help him out along the way were fellow Perth DJ showman extraordinaire Dos 4GW and local counterpart ///▲▲▲\\\ A.K.A. Tim, who both turned out to be perfect warm up acts for Ford as the got the crowd appropriately energised for the headliner.
///▲▲▲\\\ can be summed up as a local techno wiz who favours creativity and spontaneity over the delights that 21st century technology can provide. This is evident throughout his short but convincing set where his production is altered and manipulated manually rather than using automation technologies like repeaters and PC programs.
Proving that he is not an overnight sensation, Dos 4GW boosted his beats and tunes to the max and quickly had all punters on their feet dancing the night away to his own creation of European techno.
After everyone had cooled off from their dance floor exploits it was time to brace for the one and only Tomas Ford.
In the midst of his current Bash Myself Pity Party Tour in support of his new EP of the same name, Tomas Ford, clad in his space suit and makeup launched off on his spaceship taking punters for a tour around his discography until his set was struck down with technical debacles. After screaming out a plethora of expletives from A to Z, he apologised to punters and took five to eradicate the issues.
Up till this point he had managed to claim all inhabitants as his own as a majority of the punters had seen him before, knew what to expect and played along in the game willingly. Once Ford had dug himself out of a hole he treated the crowd to his own rendition of Radiohead’s No Surprises.
Concluding his set he apologised again relentlessly and ordered fans to eliminate his performance from their minds and promised Canberrans that he’d be back to make up for it!
to listen to their music now on
