With the start of their – œBroken Leg tour’ Bluejuice not only put on an excellent set but had complied a complete package. Great choice of venue? (Check). Attentive, quality sound guy? (Check). Support band to complement style? (Check)

A massive sign on entry reading - œDeep Sea Arcade will not be playing tonight due to illness’ brought on a few curse words. Although whilst the boys were resting and getting their health back to 100% Oxford Arts Factory (OAF) was alive and kicking, punching, dancing, shouting and screaming.

Supporting Bluejuice on their – œbroken leg’ tour the blazer-baring lads from Bridgemary Kiss rocked it out and had you wondering who the audience really was there to see. Yet to hit their 20’s, the boys had a hell of a lot of stage maturity. All good things come in threes; enthusiasm, eccentrics and accents. The band presented an – œArctic Monkey’ feel hailing from lead singer Brett’s Brighton vocals in combination with an orgy of guitars. Punters that already filled both levels of OAF fed the atmosphere steering the band away from an indie classification and more towards a punchy rock energy.

But wait there’s more. No, the gig did not include a free set of steak knives rather a sharp incision that is called Bluejuice. Bluejuice proved that true sound and showman-ship carrying from the honest love of the music still exists past the mask that some current bands are hiding behind. Straight to the musical highlights, there was no way to stand back and merely tap your foot and act sensible whilst the boys cracked out Broken Leg third song in. I personally couldn’t stand still, and my previous whinging mood brought on by a shit day was thrown out the window.

Adding to the energy front man Jake spent the whole night bare foot, jumping around the stage like a crazed monkey. Swinging off the stage curtains, climbing onto the foldbacks, being pulled into the crowd in a moment of rockstardom (only to have his mic briefly stolen) yet never for one second losing vocal quality. Stav joined in the action with some mic-stand twirling and got you wondering how you can produce such insane vocals whilst putting your body through such an intense stage act.

As Jake continued to drenched punters whilst flailing around water bottles he humbling stopped for a moment to invite his sister, jazz singer Elana Stone (worth checking out), on stage. Lost in the crowd hands were in the air claiming to be Elana in attempts to climb up on stage (yes, the guys were too).

Moving into I Ain’t Telling The Truth Bluejuice (and Elana) blew the crowd away for a second time if that is at all possible. The band worked in amazing synch between the groups vocal harmonies, stylised drumming, synths and guitars.

The night continued, never for one second lacking energy. Any bad words? Only that it was a shame to walk out the doors at the end of the night and submit back to reality away from the awesome tiny alter-world that Bluejuice had created inside OAF on this Thursday night.
