It was not the perfect evening for a rock concert, let alone a homecoming for the biggest band in Australia at the moment. The weather was miserable, it was cold, but the Fremantle faithful poured into the picturesque Art Centre.

Under a huge marquee, Bob Evans got the party started with his country tinged, pop rock songs. This gentleman of the stage has come a long way since his kooky guise came about performing at the Norfolk Basement some years ago.

Nowhere Without You, Goodnight Bullcreek and Hand Me Downs had the crowd bopping, singing and dancing along. Evans was the perfect opening to a great evening, finishing off with Don’t You Think Its Time which blended in some Chemical Brothers Let Forever Be lyrics for good measure.

After a short break, the stage lights dimmed, and the booming Indian-vibed sound of the Foreign Land intro boomed out over the crowd, and one by one Fremantle’s favourite sons made their way onstage.

It was something to be seen, the crowd was in awe, and lead man Kav Temperley’s voice was rock solid, as they burst through Inshalla and Sarah.

“We are Eskimo Joe from Fremantle, Western Australia” Temperley declared and the boys had us eating out of their hands. This concert had everything, Hits, Marriage proposals ,a big fuck off live screen, even Stuey Macleod daring and taunting the heavens to open up.

Hit after hit was rocked out, London Bombs, New York and Older Than You, Even Girl album track Sydney Song got a rendition for the Freo fans. Amongst the hits were the fresh tracks on the tasty Inshalla album including Childhood Behaviour and Losing Friends Over Love.

Dont Let Me Down was a major highlight, such a beautiful, fun and inspiring song, it had the people on the hill dancing and the people on the inside’s toes tapping.

The encore break only lasted for a minute or two before the boys reappeared for their massive anthem Black Fingernails, Red Wine, Steve Parkin and Bob Evans and their bands were invited on stage for comedic sing along for Life Is Better With You, which even had the Gingerbread Man causing mischief.

From The Sea and Wake Up brought the serious beauty back to the performance, before a romping rendition of Icehouse’s We Can Get Together had the revellers leaving with the best vibes after one of the finest performances this town has, and will ever see.
