Transit Bar hosted the latest Hip Hop stint here in Canberra on Thursday night, Downsyde, D’Opus, Roshambo and local, DJ Buick coming together to throw down some killer tunes and beats. A lack of crowd proved a slow start for the hip hoppers but as Buick dusted off his records and slammed down some tracks, all those bums started boogying on their seats. Mixing some 70’s style flute solos with 90’s underground hip hop, there was plenty to be entertained by. A fresh style and very sexy tunes got people slowly getting up and moving their thing. Buick had the perfect mix to start the night off.

Transit Bar decided to make everyone pay $10 as a cover charge which is a little unusual considering their common philosophy of free events, never the less the music was worth that $10 and considering the Downsyde crew had to make their way from Western Australia, people weren’t complaining.

A younger crowd began to emerge as the night went on and when local act Roshambo hit the stage things got pumped up. There was more dancing, more grooving and more boozing. D’Opus began turning some well known tunes out when Roshambo busted out on stage and got the show started. The Canberra boys quickly became the centre of focus having one of the speakers blow out a little before their set, but redeeming themselves with stylish tracks and sing-a-long lyrics like Million Dollar Bill, the audience were getting taken care of in the entertainment department.

Giving Downsyde a very warm welcome, Roshambo finished their confident performance with some new songs from their yet to be named album.

The boys from W.A. blew us away with some songs of old and some new. All with very different clothing styles, rapping styles and individual personalities the MC’s from Downsyde showed a unique connection through each song. Giving each other big props throughout the night, the crew presented us with a very tight performance. A drummer, a bassist and the killer DJ Armee added to the danceable party style raps and beats to knock you down. Transit bar was filling up fast and moving around until the end. Playing recognisable songs like Super Heroes and Master MC, there was always something to dance or sing along to, they had us up in arms and the Oh’s and the Yeah’s were going all night.

Great crowd connection too, the interaction between the performers and the on-lookers lasted throughout the evening, and while each MC, DJ or band member had their own solo, the others would be uniting with the audience and creating a fantastic vibe for everyone.

There was a climax reached that night, and it did plateau a little toward the end, however the people were there to party, and Downsyde had the perfect concoctions for a party atmosphere in both music and attitude. Finishing off the night with some Spanish style samples and of course the popular and most recent Fortune and Fame, everyone got up and shook the dance floor.
