Despite being in the process of band lineup issues and a changing sound, Melbourne’s Behind Crimson Eyes are starting to sort out their issues and sticking to what they’re best at… playing music.
Except this time around it is all different. Behind Crimson Eyes have lost two band members (Kevin Orr & Cameron Gilmour) and are now trying to do what a child actor does and break into the adult market while trying to keep their old fanbase happy. In hindsight they should stick to playing all ages gigs.

Anyway while they’re having a shot at the over 18 market they are on tour promoting their new self-titled album and to help them along the way last Thursday night at ANU bar were local hard rock outfit Corporate Takedown and Melbourne’s Twelve Foot Ninja.

Corporate Takedown are a young, promising band that can simply be described as short, fast and loud. They garnered great support from the limited crowd there to see them but are a band that would succeed a lot better by playing at The Basement.

Following CT was Melbourne’s Twelve Foot Ninja who delivered one of the best support performances seen in a while as they brought good wit, charisma and a variety of musical styles to their set proving popular with the growing crowd. Their sound smacks you hard from the onset, as it is by and large metal after all, but they incorporate reggae and soul elements in a lot of their songs.

The crowd during both these acts was predominately made up of wives and girlfriends but did include a sprinkling of enthusiastic and dedicated hard rock/metal/hardcore fans that had the outfits to match and danced violently.

After a lengthy changeover period the band in question Behind Crimson Eyes, took to the stage and delivered a mediocre set, showcasing songs mainly off their new album but threw in a couple of oldies like Addicted and Fighting for our Lives. It was surprising that they played Addicted early in the set as that is one of their well-known songs but maybe since there wasn’t much of a crowd they weren’t trying too hard.

But on the good side vocalist Josh Stuart assures fans that they will be doing an All Ages friendly tour later in the year to give underage fans a taste of their new album. There probably would have been a lot of tweens that would have loved to see them on Thursday night if they were allowed to. Maybe they should stick to All Ages gigs.
