British India’s last show on the This Ain’t No Fucking Disco Tour and last show for 2009 was loud, it was frenzied and while the barricades didn’t quite come down it was everything you expect from a British India gig.

Following on from their last show in Adelaide back in April at the Live at the Zoo debacle, where they were held responsible for inciting the crowd to storm the barricades, the final headline show at the Gov was almost tame in comparison but in no way disappointing.

In a few short years British India have become one of the best bands on the indie circuit and their live set is raw high energy with damn fine rock.

Kicking off what has become a pretty slick set with This Dance is Loaded, they played tracks mostly from the Thieves album including God Is Dead Meet The Kids, I Said I’m Sorry and my personal highlight Nic the Poet where lead vocalist Declan Melia helped Matt O’Gorman out on the drums, bringing the already massive energy up another level.

From the first album, Guillotine, they threw in Teenage Mother, Tie Up My Hands, Run the Red Light and Black and White Radio which they finished the encore on.

The sold out Gov crowd were highly appreciative singing along to pretty much every song and engaging in the odd spot of crowd surfing, which at one point included a pair of Cons making it to the front with no person attached.

There is no doubt that these four white boys, high or not, have 20,000 kids on their mobile phones right where they want them and happy to be along for the ride. I for one am looking forward to the new material they are working on.

Helping out with the support slot were local Adelaide band The Shiny Brights who are brilliantly chaotic. Lead vocalist Wolfgang is everywhere, including in the rest of the bands face quite a lot. It’s fun, it’s fast and I have to agree which the Advertiser’s conclusion that these guys are one to watch. They are putting out their second EP later this year so I suspect we’ll be hearing a lot more from them in the coming months.
