An array of music including indie jive, a little ska a dash of punk and plenty of rock proved Brisbane’s Yves Klein Blue a huge success in the Capital this week. Canberra’s stylish souls abandoned there café posts to check these talented lads out at the ANU Bar, a popular destination for impressive live performances.

Posing a 50’s rock style, and lady-killer looks, the Brisbane boys rocked the place from start to finish. Supporting act, Philadelphia Grand Jury put up a strong performance and got the crowd going. As soon as they step foot on stage, the crowd, of young and old leaped from their seats and gathered around front to join the band in their wacky moves and groovy tunes.

Starting with a crowd favourite, I Am Going to Kill You, the boys from Philadelphia Grand Jury showed the people how to rock, and definitely filled the room with a cheery vibe. A little slow to get the next ball rolling, Yves Klein Blue stepped on stage only to make up for the time lost by blowing the crowd away with familiar and not so familiar tunes from both the latest album Ragged and Esctatic and their former EP Draw Attention to Themselves. Vibrant faces and illuminating expressions showed confidence and charisma, something you don’t get from every performer. Grateful for the crowd’s presence, the young performers seemed genuinely excited to be there.

Although the Uni holidays have set in, and most have left town, there was a surprisingly good turn out, especially for a Wednesday night. There was no lack of atmosphere for the band struck hard, and made a well pleased crowd work the dance floor all throughout the performance. Leaving the most recognisable tunes till later in the set, the audience was no less impressed by songs such as Dinosaur, Soldier and Polka, which is also featured on the car advert on TV, you might know it. It’s the one where the young couple are throwing stuff off the balcony onto a trampoline and into the boot of their car…yeah you know the one.

When Lead singer Michael Tomlinson busted out on the keyboard, the tone changed a little, there was a little more melodic influence there, and his voice is comparative to that of Arctic Monkeys lead singer Alex Turner. In fact the whole sound reminded us of Arctic Monkeys. The band then moved off stage leaving Tomlinson to spill out a tune full of love, lust, future and emotions in an epic acoustic tune, which toned the show down, until they threw in the next song, Born to Run by Bruce Springsteen and it had everyone’s heels kicking once again.

A very fresh, good quality sound and definitely the kind of music people are into at the moment, Yves Klein Blue is set to sore in the world of music, along with that, looks such as those are sure to attract many fans on their journey to stardom, let’s hope they stop by again soon.
