Dialect, with the support of DJ Snare and Social Change hit the stage with a freestyle, followed by some new material. Dialect has an…interesting Fran Drescher-like voice, whether this is normal or not I am not sure, I’ll get back to you.
Looking around, there didn’t seem to be too many people in yet, which was surprising.
DJ Staen 1, arguably one of the better Deck artists in Adelaide (and yes, it was argued) opened the set for Delta. Staen is a great showman, great to watch as well as listen to. His skill shows in the way he relates to the crowd, getting them involved and playing it up to them.
Delta seemed cocky to the point of arrogance, setting a high standard for himself. His performance, compared to his other recent shows, seemed flat and tired, but he was still smiling. He performed tracks from his new album The Second Story including Prime Minister and The Lostralian, from the album of the same name.
By now there was a fair crowd, which included a few local artists. There were those who were running around wearing their own branded t-shirts, mentioning shows and getting the free publicity, then there were those who snuck up to the Balcony bar and sat quietly watching the show. The girls looked familiar…album cover and film clip maybe?
Finally, after way too long, Wu Tang’s Ghostface Killah kicked off his Australian tour in Adelaide, bringing fellow Theodore Unit artists Wigs, Trife, Du Lilz and DJ J-Love along for the ride.
Big Bass is an understatement, this was bone shakingly massive bass, with a little ear drum piercing punctuation thrown in for good measure.
This was definitely worth waiting for, Ghostface and friends put on an awesome show, although it did take a while to notice the guy casually smoking and rapping from the back. Apparently the bouncers didn’t want smokers in the crowd though, with a couple of guys being thrown out early in the set. Way to waste $80 guys!!
– œW’ were everywhere as the tracks rolled out, taking some of GFK’s solo hits and throwing in a few Wu Tang songs here and there.
Did I mention the bass?
What is it with Rappers and getting chicks on stage? Unfortunately for GFK, that is where the fans switched off, the once pumped crowd losing interest quickly, some using it as an excuse to hit the bar, and stay there.
A couple more tracks and it was all over (seeing as it was a Tuesday night and civilized society had work the next morning), with a request to get onto our promoters to get GFK and Wu tang back here asap. Ghostface headed to side of stage to do signings and meet some of his fans.
So, ill pass on Ghostface’s message again; If you want to see more old school hip hop in Adelaide/Australia, hit up the promoters and make it happen!
Oh, and that bass…I think I may just be deaf.
